Busy Times!!!
September 16, 2010It's been a while... beginning of April since the last time I wrote. It has been a busy time May, June and July for all gardeners and even more so for us. The Children have now been allowed into the garden area and mass planting has been going on, lots of veggies in fact. The children have been weeding and tending to them all.
The pond is full of life, we have newts, tadpoles by the thousand and possibly the odd one or two frogs.
The children have watched the tadpoles develop some grew legs, some developed into baby frogs, lots of photos were taken.
At least two of the bird boxes were nested in and I don't think the squirrels bothered them to much!!!
Many of the vegetables grew very well and some of the children were able to take some home to eat.
The children also grew sunflowers for a local schools competition, not sure how they have done yet.
NEW TERM SEPT 2010
I know I have only briefed over all the work that went into the summer term but I just like to say A HUGE THANK YOU to all the volunteers that have made this possible and have kept coming back time and again to help.
We are now into a new term and lots of good things to come.... the volunteers are back on the job and clearing and tidying up what nature has tried to claim back over the summer holidays.
I am hoping to set up a new website with all the photos taken of the development of the project and maybe a blog that the children can contribute to etc. Also in the pipeline is the possiblity of an after-school garden club with lots of exciting activities for the children to do (including growing plants of course). Bird box camera this year hopefully!!
Still after lots more volunteers to help within the grounds and with the after-school club so if any of you parents are coming across this for the first time and wish to help please leave your details at the office and I will be in touch.
Time to enjoy our school garden...and with your help for many years to come.
Watch this space for up and coming news.
Cheers
Debbie
